About Our Program
Legacy Lane Dachshunds is a preservation-focused breeding program dedicated to the Longhaired Miniature Dachshund. We actively exhibit our dogs in AKC conformation events and utilize comprehensive health screening to ensure our breeding decisions support the future of the breed.
Our adults undergo comprehensive health screening including OFA evaluations and genetic testing. We use these results alongside pedigree research, conformation evaluation, and temperament assessment when making breeding decisions.
We participate in AKC conformation events to ensure an objective evaluation of our parent dogs against the Dachshund breed standard. This helps ensure that future generations maintain the structure, movement, temperament, and breed type that define the Miniature Dachshund.
At Legacy Lane, our dogs are part of the family. They live in our home, and our lives revolve around them and their puppies. We are dedicated to providing them not only the most comfortable environment to live in, but also the best nutrition, supplements, and vet care possible. We put our heart and soul into every miniature Dachshund puppy born here, and carefully screen potential families to ensure our babies will continue to be cherished in their forever homes.
Our mamas give birth (whelp) in our home with me by their side to help in case there are any complications. The puppies are handled and loved on from the time they are born. When they are old enough (day 3) we incorporate Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS.) ENS is believed to increase capacity of the neurological system, resulting in improved cardio vascular performance, stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease.

Our puppies have several play areas set up throughout our home. These areas provide a safe place for them to nap and play together, while still being "part of the family" and getting used to the sights and sounds of a busy household. Their set ups include a play area with toys to stimulate sensory development, and a potty area with artificial grass pads to help them later transition to using the yard. This starts the potty training process and sets them up for success when they go to their new homes.
We feed our Dachshund puppies Purina Pro Plan Lamb and Rice Puppy Formula, a diet we have found to support healthy growth and development. Every puppy goes to their new home with a starter pack of the Pro Plan dry puppy food. While we encourage our puppy families to continue using Pro Plan, we are happy to help if you need advice on transitioning to a different brand.
Our puppies are always examined by a vet before leaving us to ensure they are healthy and ready to join their new families. They will be microchipped and up to date on age appropriate vaccines and parasite prevention. We provide a "Legacy Lane Swag Bag" loaded with treats, toys, blankets, and other goodies to get you off to a great start. We also include a binder with your puppy's AKC registration papers and health exam certificate, along with our written health guarantee and other important information for you to reference easily.
We are happy to help arrange transport for your puppy, but please understand, we will NOT, under any circumstances, ship a puppy cargo.
They must be picked up in person at the airport or accompanied by a professional flight nanny. We know several flight nannies that we have used and trust with our puppies, as well as ground transport options available to deliver your precious pup directly to you.
We love to get updates on our puppies, and we are always available to answer questions, give advice, and even babysit your puppy when you go on vacation! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. We would love to get to know you and help you find your new forever friend.
